Planner/organiser's comments Well I hope everyone enjoyed the event and the opportunity to picnic in the sun afterwards. When Viv (to whom thanks, along with the dogs, for her help) and I put out the controls in the rain I feared another poor 'summer' day. However, it soon cheered up and everyone had a good thrash through the nettles and brambles of Linacre.
Handicapping is an inexact science at the best of times; on this occasion made harder by the lack of recent 'form'. There were some close finishes and had there been more entries on the long course I would have considered sending people off at 30 second intervals to try and get close finishes. There were some fast times on the Long course but I resisted the temptation to make it longer as I wanted to get most people back within the hour.
Congratulations to Paul Robinson, this year's Senior Club Champion and to Thomas Wright, the Junior Champion. Congratulations also to Rob Shooter on winning the Long Course, even though he doesn't get a prize!
Thanks also to the usual willing band of control collectors - Liz, Mike, Val, Kate and Andy.
Hopefully this will be the prelude to the start of 'proper' orienteering, though if nothing else it did prove to those of us going to the Swiss/Italian or Scottish 6-day events how rusty we have got.
