We had expected the work on the new Calke Explore outdoor hub to have been finished in time to do a complete update to the map but the work was delayed (indeed is still not open) hence the cut down area.

Organiser’s comments

A very enjoyable day at Calke. It was great to see a whole range of people at today’s event from regular orienteers, keen juniors competing in the Yvette Baker competition, to newcomers having a try at orienteering.

Thank you to the National Trust for allowing us to hold the event on the beautiful parkland and for use of their facilities.

Well done to all competing in the Yvette Baker heat, with a close finish between WCH & LEI in the Trophy class and LOG go through for the Shield as sole competitors in their class.

Congratulations to Hilary Palmer who is the winner of the National Forest Trophy and thank you to Zoe Sewter, National Forest Outreach & Recreational Development Officer, for coming along to present this award.

A BIG thank you to the DVO members who volunteered their help today – a small few made a great team! Without their willingness to help this event wouldn’t have been possible. Apologies to anyone who was expecting a Maze-O, unfortunately a shortage of helpers meant we couldn’t put one out.

A final thank you to Ann- Marie for planning the courses, Doug for controlling the event and Mike for managing all the complex computing.

Controller's Comments
What a super day ... NT Calke Park at its best. As previous visitors will have noticed we lost the whole wooded area on the west of the old map to the newly developing Visitor Centre (new map for your next visit). This loss constrained planning to some extent but  I feel that Anne-Marie did a great job in making sure you all had chance to visit the best of the rest.

It always makes me feel proud when the DVO event teams arrive and just simply get on with the all of the jobs of making it possible for the event to run smoothly. My thanks to all.
